Jeff Grubic lives in the Southwest U.S. and plays saxophone (alto, tenor and bari), a little brass (baritone and sousaphone) and keyboard. He leads the highly inventive Haboob and plays occasionally with a number of local Tucson musical groups, most notably, Vox Urbana and Golden Boots. He has composed original music for theater and film, and his sax can be heard on many local, national and international recordings and films.
Jeff Grubic began his professional career at the age of 14 playing in top 40 soul bands in Northern California. He appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival at the age of 17. He has studied with the Stan Kenton Big Band as well as electronic music pioneer Gordon Mumma. He has performed with Jazz giant Sonny Simmons, was involved with punk rock in its early days, and has composed long minimalist pieces to be played in giant metal cubes.
